I have to say, that's what makes us really happy. To see the changes that our coats do to a woman. And that's a shame, that it's not possible for you all to try them on and get THAT feeling.
But, what we can do - we can tell you all about the coats. The good things, and the things that make them even better. So, if you were wondering what exactly are the fabric qualities or how do we create the coats, keep on reading and you will know what makes RainSisters design coats so special.
1. NOT a raincoat. A COAT!
When someone tells you, that he or she bought a raincoat what is the first thought that comes into your mind? Yes, transparent, yellow or blue, but definitely plastic. Or in a few cases - a rubbery one. And do you want to know why? Because most of raincoats truly are like that.
When we started to think about brand RainSisters and design coats, the main idea was to create a coat that is feminine, beautiful, functional, and comfortable to wear in every kind of weather. We wanted to design a coat that is equally good when the rain is poring down as when the sun is shining. So that you don't have to worry about the weather changes or how to match your favourite high heel shoes to a unisex raincoat.
The main thing that differs our design coats from your typical floral raincoat is that it IS a coat. It's not designed to be worn only when it's raining. It IS designed to be worn at all times, ALSO when it's raining, snowing or is being windy. And the fabric that we use is there to facilitate all of this.
2. Membrane fabric - probably the best fabric for your coat
When people touch and feel the RainSisters coats, they usually are astonished that it is a waterproof fabric - because it doesn't feel like that. The outer layer of material is made out of woven fabric so it doesn't have the plastic or rubber feel to it. But it does have a great functionality - it keeps you dry by blocking rain, snow or sleet from getting through.
The middle layer of the fabric is the membrane - it holds back the wind while letting through the steam that your body produce while moving. This fabric is specially made to be breathable; so, no, you won't be getting all sweaty when wearing one of our design coats.
And last but not least, the inner layer of the fabric is made of soft fleece material that keeps you warm while letting the steam to flow through from inside to outside. Thus, it is possible to wear this as a real coat starting from approximately -5°C up to +20°C! Isn't it amazing?
3. Custom-designed fabric patterns
4. Hand made design coats
Being taught how to sew from an early childhood, it would be a shame not to put this knowledge to work. So all of our design coats are being hand made by us or our employees. That means that the sewing process is taking longer, but it also means that your coat is being sewn with love and great care. We think that this way, when you are wearing RainSisters design coat, you also feel the emotions and love that we give to you through the coat.
Another great thing for hand made process is that we can adapt coats to individual measurements. Taking into consideration that every woman has a different figure as well as character we think it is sustainable and wise to buy just the things that will fit you well - physically and emotionally. And what is more important than the perfect fit of your coat?
And actually, if you are ordering design coat at our website, there's a chance it will be made specially for you. And that's because we don't keep large amounts of standard size coats. There are some for you to try on, but as we truly think about sustainability and slow fashion, we think it's much better to create coats as made to order peaces.
5.Sustainable fashion & slow fashion
Sustainable fashion today is a highly debated and increasingly covered topic in media and at seminars worldwide. More and more clothing companies are transforming their business models, working on their supply chains to reduce overall environmental impacts, improving the social conditions in factories, etc.
The term slow fashion is really similar to sustainable fashion. Slow fashion slows down the pace of shopping and consumption to ask the tough questions. It is all about quality instead of quantity—garments that can last years or even a lifetime. Slow fashion is holistic and considers the whole product lifecycle, it is sustainable and doesn’t view products as disposable. Also slow fashion is ethical and looks at the connections between things—raw materials, the environment, human labor, etc.
As mentioned above, we truly think about how we treat environment with our activities. We try to save the nature in different ways. Each design coat are being manufactured on demand or custom-made in high quality and timeless design, in an environmentally friendly manner and with consideration to various ethical aspects.
In other words, we create RainSisters design coats when there's an order. That means, we don't order lots and lots of fabric. On contrary - we prefer to order just the amount we need so there's no leftovers.
For our coats we use high quality materials so you can wear the coat for years and years. All of the fabric scraps and leftovers are being passed for recycling or used to create other products (such as our cosmetic bags). And also, we produce our coats locally and don't support sewing of garments in third countries. Of course, all of this together puts an extra price on the finished piece, but we think that's the fair price we all should pay to preserve our environment.
All in all, theres so much more to RainSisters design coats that you couldn't tell just from the look of them. What do you like the most in our design coats?
